![]() ![]() You can't simply tap (versus hold to guard) L1 and then quick step in the direction you are holding the left stick and there is no separate button either.Īm I doing something wrong? Am I the only one who feels this way? How can I improve because I'm face talking everything in a genre where I'm used to taking no damage. First you need to press a button which breaks combat, then you need to flick the control stick. However this entire system seems horribly impractical. Starting with the basics (in case I'm misunderstanding HOW to dodge), you hold L1 down and then tilt the left control stick to preform a quick step. Point is, this is neither a new concept to me, nor something I'm bad at.īut in this game it just feels all wrong. In Dragon's Dogma, Mystic Knight was hands down my favorite because you literally kill things by performing "perfect blocks". Originally posted by Krovoc:For context's sake, in most games my style is heavy on dodging, parrying, and generally defensive. Every character is invincible for the duration of their Break Soul attack animation (Rokurou's is design to be used in this exact way), and Velvet herself can't die even after it as long as she hit something and therionized successfully since she just triggers a Break Arte when she reaches 1 HP and ends therionization. If you're NOT low on Souls (4+), the best way to "avoid" an enemy attack is just to Break Soul through it if you can. So just using those hit-and-run tactics, kiting enemies around, or baiting an attack and then just running to the side to counter-attack during/after their own attack animation is usually the best bet, imo. It's not a guarantee, and it can take several hit-and-run jabs at an enemy to trigger the Stuns, but it can help. The first one, where you flash Blue, increases Stun chance on your next attack, and the one where you flash Red makes you're next attack un-guardable. Ideally, if you're low on Souls (2 or less), the best/safest way to earn some back is by using the Guard Charge abilities that you unlock as you go. Because of this, it was more something I would pull off just out of luck, or in desperation. Not to mention most attacks and spells have multiple hits, meaning you may need to dodge up to 3-4+ times in order to fully avoid the attack. ![]() Not because the free-run or Manual/Semi-Auto control mode made it feel clunky or awkward to use (for me at least, I love how this game's combat feels), but just because figuring out the timing on the enemy attacks is pretty difficult, since every enemy has different attacks, every attack has different timings, and spells all have different ranges and activation speeds when they're cast (Stone Lance hits faster than Blood Moon, for example). You may have better results, though.įor me, that perfect-dodge mechanic always just ended up being a last resort kind of thing. You can do it at any time by just flicking the stick in a direction, even if you're not guarding first, but that method of triggering it has always felt a little hit-or-miss since your general movement is also just using the stick, so I never made an effort to use it that way (I always just did the LB+Stick method). Technically you don't have to hold LB first in order to perform a quickstep. ![]()
